THE SIGNAL

Friday closed with TSMC turning in one of the strongest prints in the AI supply chain’s short history — 34% year-over-year revenue growth, a 77% EPS jump, and full-year guidance raised to 40%+ growth. The stock still fell 2.77% to $398.37. The reason: alongside the beat, TSMC lifted its 2026 capex budget to $60–64 billion, and the market read that not as confirmation of demand but as evidence that AI infrastructure spending may be outrunning returns. That reaction — punishing the best-positioned company in the trade for spending more to meet the demand it just proved exists — is the story of the day.

Layered on top: WTI-linked names caught a fast bid after Washington canceled Iran sanctions waivers alongside ceasefire headlines, pulling energy higher (XLE +1.16%, OXY +2.26%, CVX +1.91%) even as it dragged broader risk sentiment lower. Geopolitical repricing and AI-capex doubt hit the tape from two different directions at once.

The tell was dispersion, not direction. AeroVironment (AVAV) was the day’s worst mover at -4.75%, dragged by both sector-wide profit-taking and an unrelated securities class-action deadline. AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) was the day’s best at +5.07%, shrugging off the same macro headwinds on telecom-partnership optimism. When the best and worst movers diverge this hard on one session, it means the market is repricing individual stories — not selling the index.

TODAY’S TOP CALLS

IBM $212.67 (-2.91%) — Still absorbing last week’s 25%, $68B wipeout from the Z-mainframe guidance miss. Friday’s slide shows that wound hasn’t closed.

AeroVironment (AVAV) $142.20 (-4.75%) — Worst mover in the ten-sector set. A securities class-action deadline compounded broader defense-drone profit-taking.

AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) $57.80 (+5.07%) — Best mover in the set. Telecom-partnership economics with AT&T and Verizon are getting credit even as the tape sold off around it.
