THE SIGNAL
Friday’s tape drew a clean line between two kinds of AI trade. Every quantum-computing name in our coverage posted a double-digit or near-double-digit gain — IonQ +11.9%, Rigetti +8.5%, D-Wave +7.0% — while Rocket Lab and AST SpaceMobile led the space complex higher and digital health saw a genuine outlier: Doximity spiked to a $40 intraday high on an AI-ranking headline before fading hard to close up 32.6%. Palantir added another 10.3% after crushing Q2 estimates, pushing its market cap to within a few hundred million dollars of the $500B threshold.
The flip side is the real story. Oil & gas was broadly red — XLE, Chevron, and Exxon all fell more than 1% — and the data-center REIT complex (Equinix, Vertiv, GE Vernova) gave back ground even as the AI hardware majors, Nvidia, Broadcom, and ASML, posted only modest gains. That divergence is the tell: this was capital chasing narrative and earnings beats in smaller-cap, high-beta names, not a broad reacceleration of the AI-infrastructure trade. The picks-and-shovels names sat this one out.
Read closely, it looks like crowding, not conviction — and Monday brings a real test in the form of Rocket Lab’s earnings print.
TODAY’S TOP CALLS
PLTR $172.01 (+10.32%) — Q2 revenue grew 93% year-over-year with U.S. commercial revenue up 149%. The post-earnings pop puts the company’s market cap within striking distance of the $500B mark that lines up with its prior all-time high.
IONQ $44.43 (+11.86%) — Extending a multi-week run as investors chase pure-play quantum exposure ahead of continued government and enterprise contract wins across the sector.
MP $51.11 (+7.62%) — The rare-earth reshoring trade extends on a DOD-backed price floor and expanding customer commitments from Apple and GM aimed at cutting China dependence.
