The high-beta, story-driven names across our universe took the worst hit of the month — Hims & Hers cratered 14.2%, Rocket Lab dropped 8.7% on skepticism around its just-announced acquisition, Joby fell 8.1% with no fresh catalyst attached, and the quantum-computing complex bled out across the board. Meanwhile Digital Realty Trust ripped 11% higher and Lockheed Martin added another 2.5% — a defense-and-hard-infrastructure bid that looks a lot like money rotating out of speculation and into balance sheets you can actually underwrite.
The tell isn’t any single ticker. It’s the dispersion. When commodity-linked names (MP Materials, -7.5%), quantum plays (Rigetti, -4.7%; IonQ, -3.6%), and eVTOL (Joby, -8.1%) all sell off on the same session that a data-center REIT and a prime defense contractor catch a bid, that’s not sector-specific news — that’s a market re-pricing risk. Watch whether this rotation holds into the new week or reverses as a one-day flush.
Rocket Lab’s move deserves a specific note: the stock fell on the back of its own announcement of an $8 billion acquisition of Iridium Communications at $54/share. Strategically the deal makes sense on paper — it verticalizes Rocket Lab’s satellite-communications ambitions — but the market’s initial read was dilution and leverage risk, not synergy.
