THE SIGNAL
Archer Aviation closed Thursday at $6.97, up 10.81% on volume near 62 million shares — and its $7.065 intraday high landed almost exactly on Tuesday’s $7.08 peak. In between, the stock gave back 7.4% on Wednesday, closing at $6.29. That’s a full round trip in three sessions: a squeeze, a hard fade, and a retest of the same high. The retest held. It’s not backed by nothing, either — CEO Adam Goldstein struck a notably more confident public tone this week around FAA Phase 3 certification progress and Archer’s role in the White House’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, and sell-side coverage has turned more constructive, framing the pullback as a buying opportunity rather than a red flag. Two rips and one violent give-back in three days still isn’t a clean trend, but buyers showed up on the retest — that’s more than momentum alone usually explains.
The more instructive story is what’s underneath. Doximity jumped 6.4% to a session-high close of $26.59, extending an AI-earnings re-rating that’s been building since its clinical AI assistant topped independent accuracy rankings earlier this month. Palantir added 4.66% to $179.01, still riding a quarter Wall Street called “otherworldly.” Micron rose 4.23% on a memory-chip-shortage thesis now getting swept into $1.4 trillion 2027 AI-infrastructure forecasts alongside Nvidia and AMD. Every one of those moves has a concrete, dated catalyst behind it.
What didn’t get the benefit of the doubt: commodities and speculative space names with nothing new attached to them. Freeport-McMoRan fell 3.45%, Newmont dropped 3.1%, and Virgin Galactic slid 4.85% — all three sessions were quiet on the news wire. Hims & Hers kept sliding too, down 4.0%, as a third law firm joined the FTC privacy-lawsuit investigation this week. Today’s tape paid for catalysts and discounted everything else.
