All Signal. Zero Noise.

THE SIGNAL

Thursday was the worst day for chip stocks in years, per reporting, after the midterm results and new concerns about data center regulation hit the AI trade at once. Friday was the bounce, and the shape of it matters more than its size. SPY $735.29 (+0.31%) barely moved. QQQ $656.10 (+1.40%) did a little better. The real buying went to the names that had fallen hardest.

The single most important tell is where that buying went. IONQ $32.62 (+23.42%) closed at its high on 42.9 million shares, LUNR $10.47 (+21.46%) and RKLB $53.07 (+15.39%) closed near theirs, and every quantum, drone and space name except IBM rose. That is relief buying in the most speculative corner of the tape, not a broad return of confidence. The defense primes and oil, the groups that held up best through the selloff, went nowhere or lower.

The one rebound with a fundamental reason was AMD $449.04 (+11.04%). Per reporting, its record quarter and stronger growth outlook finally got paid on Friday, after the selloff overwhelmed its report earlier in the week. The rest of the AI complex followed only partly: NVDA $186.64 (+2.78%) and AVGO $293.69 (+0.74%) recovered a fraction of what they lost.

TODAY’S TOP CALLS

AMD $449.04 (+11.04%) — the only big rebound tied to fresh results; whether it holds next week tells us if earnings can still lead this tape.

IONQ $32.62 (+23.42%) — the biggest mover in the universe, closing at its high; a rebound this sharp in the riskiest names usually tests itself quickly.

LMT $567.08 (-1.58%) — the defense primes kept falling while everything speculative bounced, which keeps the election's effect on defense budgets in focus.
